Hey all!
Disclaimer: This is not a typical mutual aid post. I would take a serious financial hit from these costs, but what it would destroy is a block of savings I have set aside for an emergency evacuation from Canada (i.e. my health collapses and my family must come get me).
I am inches from finishing my degree, but I am running up against extremely costly institutional deadlines. I still owe UBC more than $1000 for summer term that must be paid before I can register for winter term. Winter term session 1’s tuition is around a little over $3000. I will likely be able to recoup some of this if I am able to finish in the first few weeks of September. Which is entirely possible! I am very close to being done, however poorly I finish. I am so fucking close.
The past three years have been one hardship after another. I’ve survived academic ableism, the eugenics of public health in multiple epi/pandemics, and even COVID-19 twice while clinically extremely vulnerable. I also survived an abusive relationship, severe autistic and ADHD burnout, and the severe flareup of my CPTSD. And in spite of all the violence laden upon me, I am so fucking close to getting this degree.
The significant costs are also delaying my ability to purchase important equipment for my disabilities, namely a walker and CPAP that I can be reimbursed for, but require a significant outlay of funds first.
The costs I am trying to cover are below. If you have found my work worthwhile, feel particularly passionate about helping a disabled queer grad student finish their history degree and move on with their activism, writing, and life, or just want to help, I would be very grateful. I know that this is my second time trying to crowdfund significant funds this year and understand if people want to spread their contributions around.
